Do Your Lashes Say Wow?
Even if we can find a good waterproof mascara that doesn't leak or do damage to our eyelashes (see below), the hassle of applying and removing make-up in this heat is unwelcome. Eyelash extensions have become more popular recently, but with the potential of formaldehyde in the adhesives (not all adhesives use this harmful ingredient, but some use it below trace levels so it is not detectable - ask for a toxicity report), the risk of infection if bacteria is trapped under the glue, the tension placed on your natural lash follicles (sometimes leading to permanent damage), and the financial toll the refills take, many are opting out of extensions.
Besides all of that, I'm sure we can all think of better things to do during the summer other than fretting about our lashes. Eyelash growth serums are a simplified solution to the mascara problem, while also saving your pocket book and your lashes by freeing you from lash extensions. All the hair on our body, including our eyelashes, follows a 3-step life cycle of growth, transition and rest. Each eyelash has its own agenda - that is, each eyelash follows an individual cycle, and does not synchronize with its fellow lashes. This is why it's normal to see a few lashes come out once in a while.
Eyelash growth serums work by lengthening the growth stage (or anagen stage) of the hair's life cycle. When a lash spends more time growing, it reaches greater lengths before transitioning into the resting stage.
These growth serums are not just for summer and for saving your lashes from extensions. Over time, most of us experience our lashes thinning out and losing their fullness and length. This is a natural occurrence. As eyelash follicles start to slow down they can, in some cases, may even stop growing new lashes.
Our eyelash growth serums should be used at night after cleansing, applied with a brush along the lash line (where you would apply eyeliner). One quick swipe on each eyelid, and you're done!
Most clients notice a difference in the fullness and length of their lashes between 8-12 weeks*, and once you reach your desired results, you can cut back the amount of application times to 2-3 times a week - which means your serum lasts 2-3x longer. If you stop using the product, your lashes will simply go back to their normal growth cycles.
Approved by the FDA in 2008, Latisse was the first product approved for lengthening, thickening and darkening eyelashes and is still the only product approved for that purpose. Latisse uses bimatoprost, a drug traditionally used to treat glaucoma, and must be purchased from a doctor's office or pharmacy.
As with any prescription, Latisse® users should be informed of potential side effects, which include eye irritation, darkening of the eyelid, and dryness. These side effects are transient and mild, with very few patients experiencing them.*
Latisse® has a great track record - each of our female staff members has used it (or is currently using it), so feel free to pop in and take a look at what it can do!
ZO Ossential® Lash Enhancing Serum
Ossential® Lash Enhancing Serum contains a powerful blend of peptides proven to enhance eyelash thickness and length, along with panthenol and sesame seed oil for nourishing delicate lashes.* Created to visibly improve eyelash length and volume, this serum does not pose any risks to changing your eyelid or eye colour. In a clinical study, in just four weeks, 4 out of 5 subjects noticed longer, thicker lashes.* This serum is also very user friendly - just hold the pen upright and twist the bottom two to four clicks per application and voila! Long, lush, dark lashes can be yours.
Many clients use lash serums year round to maintain healthy looking, long lashes. Keep your lashes healthy by combining a growth serum with a quality mineral mascara that does not contain coal tar dyes. Many conventional mascaras use coal tar dyes to make application easier and quicker, but this also saps the fragile lash hair of its moisture and over time will make them brittle and prone to breakage.
To get the same results as a conventional mascara, without the damage, opt for the combination of a lash thickener and conditioner underneath a mineral mascara. The combination of these two products from the Glo Minerals line can increase your lash growth up to 75% - using it with a growth serum is sure to give you longer, fuller, and healthier lashes!*
